What is PlayDaze?
North Carolina’s PlayDaze celebrates the value of play and is designed to provide diverse play activities for toddlers to grandparents! Schools, child care centers, organizations, churches, families, and communities are urged to create an event and/or participate in PlayDaze lasting one hour up to an entire weekend, the choice is yours. An organized event can be as small as an intimate neighborhood gathering or as large as a massive park event. The point is to play for the sake of playing, to be physically active, to challenge each individual to be creative in mind and body, to take risks, to make individual choices, to connect with their family, friends, neighbors and community, and share in the joy of discovery and interaction without the need for competition. Children of all ages need opportunities for play!
Objectives:
- Increase physical activity, social interaction, and time spent outdoors
- Increase the time children spend playing independently or with other children in their own ways without adult interruption
- Increase opportunities for risky activities, use of loose parts and scrap, and
- Positively alter adult attitudes towards children free play and their role in child development
When is PlayDaze?
The official, coordinate push for play through PlayDaze activities is the THIRD WEEKEND in SEPTEMBER of every year (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) but any day is a good day to play!
